Waaaaay back in high school a few of my friends were playing this new game called Magic. One did so well he became a finalist at the Magic Worlds. Others won scholarships. These were guys who actually owned some of the original cards that are now collector's items. Well I never got into Magic: The Gathering but I liked the concept of a Collectible Card Game. When Decipher released Star Wars I was elated. It was a difficult but fun game to play. Many other companies are now in the collectible gaming card market. There's lot of choice but not many good games. In this section I'll post info about the few games I've managed to pick up. There aren't too many places on the internet that are devoted to the collecting of CCGs and TCGs so I might as well create my own.
Star Wars CCG
Produced By:
Decipher Inc.Status:
Discontinued (Stupid Lucas)If Magic is the classic checkers game, then the Star Wars CCG is the chess of collectible card games. I remember reading the rulebook for the very first time. I read it over 3 times before I understood how the game works. Despite the learning curve, this game was fun to play. It just sucks that Lucas decided that a simpler game would be better and didn't renew the license to Decipher.
Vs. TCG
Produced By:
Upper Deck EntertainmentStatus:
In ProductionThere have been many different super-hero card games. The last one that Marvel really did was Overpower and I hated it. Besides the Wildstorm CCG which didn't too too well, there weren't any viable options. Now Upper Deck's Vs. system is proving to be a solid card game. With both Marvel and DC signing on to a solid game system, Upper Deck has created a great game.
Inuyasha TCG
Produced By:
Score EntertainmentStatus:
In ProductionTo capitalize on the success of Yu-gi-oh! and Pokemon, Score released the next big Japanese TCG, Inuyasha. The game system is fairly simple but the cards are gorgeous. The cards are slight smaller than a normal gaming card and they are borderless. I don't really play this game, but I definitely like collecting it.
Wildstorm CCG
Produced By:
Wildstorm EntertainmentStatus:
DiscontinuedThe Wildstorm CCG was a simple CCG. You would basically battle for points. The games were fast and enjoyable. I still love the back marble image of the cards though the actual card art sucked in many cases. The CCG also had chase cards for ultra-rare versions of characters. Just plain fun.
